Rage Anthony, is a big, loud, flaming, self-distraction from feelings that
are even more frightening.
What feelings might those be?
Sadness.

After two years of treating you. I've learned things and I pick up
sorrow coming from you.

Obviously I'm predisposed to depression. Certain bleak attitudes about the world.
but I know I can handle it. Your kids, though.
That's my gift to my son.

I know this is difficult, but I'm, very glad we're having this discussion.

Really, Cause I think it fucking sucks.
What does?
Therapy, this...I hate this fucking shit!

So, after all is said and done.
After all the complaining and all the crying,
and all the fucking bullshit
is this all there is?

This is what Mary says that Therapy is:
It is a form of transformation out of that pure death drive saturated mode of living to actually embarking on a process that recovers that suffering that actually starts to restore the psyche, and
really imagine a life that is a little bit relieved from that, and then opens up the possibilities of what can happen when you're not riddled with pain, and maybe embracing you and a sense of wanting to live life productively.

He's never had a stable honest, intelligent mother figure. He doesn't have any other platform for evaluation his troubled thoughts. In his group of friends and the people that he interacts with, he simply doesn't have - you know - that avenue for exploration. This is a sacred space between himself and Dr. Mouthy to have this lifeline, for his psyche is absolutely essential.

David Chase was in therapy when he was creating the show and modeled the therapist after his own.
