Joker (Todd Phillips, 2019) - Social work / Reganomics / Thatcherism

He received the gift of a gun from a coworker, to feel less threatened and intimidated by maniacs on the street that have hurt him before. The gun fell out from his clown costume at the hospital. Now he's jobless, and he has no access to mental health care. He can't get his pills anymore. He needs to be on medication. At every level there's harm being done to him because he's living in a structural violence at every level. And even when he is trying to get care at Social Services he doesn't feel that he is really being heard anyway.

Nobody gets his jokes and no one gets him. It's only when he commits a crime that people take notice of him. This is where he is making social connections. This is the corrosive impact of societal neglect.
